Ireland

Ireland

The meadows, perfect green, it makes you feel connected to earth. Ireland is a mystical place, a dangerous one if it comes to driving. Believe me, driving around Ireland makes you an excellent driver. The hills, the meadows, the grand lakes they are truly mystical. As if you could encounter something magical any moment. It is perfectly balanced, putting your feet back on the ground.

Norway

Norway

I was 18 when we went on holiday to Norway. I just had my new camera and I had no idea about techniques (still not really important to me). Nevertheless, these images remind me of an amazing trip towards one of the Northern countries of myths and legends. I remember only saying: ‘ooh, aaah‘ because no words could describe its beauty.

Some images are blurry, out of focus and not really sharp, the thing is I don’t mind. To me it was one of the best holidays I’d ever had with my parents and my younger brother. It was a big adventure and for the first time my dad was able to get away from our farm and really get out there. I remember my brother and I renting bikes, silly as that was. The climb was steep and of course I had to bring my camera. Silly me, I had to walk uphill with my gear and bike. Downhill we had a blast. So we did it again and again. Good times, great memories.

Belgium

Belgium

I went to Belgium in April 2016 with a reason. I had my first exhibition abroad. If it wasn’t for Klaus Verscheure I would never had the opportunity to show my work. As a shy person, who doesn’t want to be put in a spotlight, this was a huge project. I had never seen myself as an artist before, the very idea of it. On top of that, I became the face of the exhibition: ‘In love with Beauty‘ in Zwevegem.

It took me a while to understand how big this actually was. All in all I will never forget that weekend, my parents joining me on this new and frightening journey. We took some time to explore the grounds set in WWI. That made an huge impact on me as well as I have read many books about it. We stayed at a cosy B&B; ‘De Deugdzonde‘. It was perfect, the farm is set in a beautiful rural area of Belgium, perfect for long quiet walks enjoying the sunset.

This whole experience made me realise that I should listen to my heart more closely. And so I thank the people who were with me the whole process. Here are some photographs I took, exploring the grounds near De Deugdzonde.

In March 2018 I had my second exhibition in Kortrijk, Natural – UNnatural. Together with another 11 amazing female artist we showed our photography/video. Again a million thanks to Klaus Verscheure and Luc Depuydt for making it possible. Scroll away and enjoy the scenery of Kortrijk.

Stockholm

Stockholm

Together with my younger brother, we explored the capital of Sweden. A brilliant way to test my Swedish. We both were pleasantly surprised by its architecture and its hidden treasures. The local food is splendid. Visit Knut & Nomad and Meatballs! Go for a walk at Djurgården, take tram 7 and visit Skansen as well. Let’s just say that Stockholm found its perfect balance between city life and nature.

The following images were taken at the following places: Skansen, Djurgården, Södermalm and throughout the city.

Faroe Islands

Faroe Islands

I had the pleasure to go on a trip to the Faroe Islands together with my cousin Ingrid Hofstra. A huge thanks to Ingrid for making it possible. Also a huge thanks to Visit Faroe Islands for all the arrangements and the opportunity to photograph alongside Ingrid. I had an interesting trip, learned a lot about local food and had the pleasure meeting interesting people. My cousin is a well-known food photographer and it was a pleasure seeing her work.

We’ve visited many places, restaurants and local shops. I felt welcome, and that’s such a unique experience. The fact that you feel welcome is priceless. You get a down-to-earth feeling, feet on the ground, realistic. It’s a feeling I can’t describe, but I welcomed it and needed it. Besides the locals, nature… such force. So many tiny and big waterfalls. It’s magnificent. It’s the Faroe Islands. I couldn’t pick a few images, I want to show you a lot.

Iceland in Winter

Iceland in Winter

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate
And though I oft have passed them by
A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon, East of the Sun.

– J. R. R. Tolkien (1892 – 1973)
